About William

I'm William Wilson, also known as "The Clothier". I didn't study fashion in college. I didn't learn from internships or retail jobs. In fact, I have less formal fashion education than most interns. I didn't go looking for a career in luxury custom clothing. It found me. But only after life had properly trained me to serve your needs.

There's a difference between selling custom suits, making suits, and being your clothier. One requires technical skill. One requires sales skill. But being a clothier requires mastery of not only the craft — but of your life and your needs. My job is to help you acquire the garment your life requires. I'm not a vendor. I'm a partner.

The Navy taught me discipline, commitment, situational awareness, and accountability. I learned how to lead by first learning how to follow and listen. That carries directly into how I work with you — listening carefully, focusing on your needs, hearing the things you say without realizing you're saying them, and helping you achieve your goal.

After the Navy, I moved to Charlotte and owned a custom residential framing company, working exclusively on homes 8,000 square feet and up. That experience taught me how to operate in the ultra-luxury space — how it flows, how to navigate it, and what clients at that level expect.

In NASCAR, I became the first full-time African American pit crew member in the history of the sport — and the first to win a championship. That environment taught me to look past the noise and focus on the primary task. I couldn't concern myself with what everyone else was doing. I had to trust my team, and they had to trust me. We won together. We lost together. Just like we will.

Those achievements were part of what culminated in being among the last group to receive the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award, signed by President Biden. and to be inducted into the North Carolina Military Veterans Hall of Fame.

But those skills and experiences allowed me to build William Wilson Clothing into something beyond a bespoke clothing studio. Named Charlotte's Best Custom Suit by Charlotte Magazine and Best Custom Clothier nine times by Elevate Lifestyle Magazine — with clients including DL Hughley, Oscar De La Hoya, Eddie Griffin, Brad Williams, and Steph Curry, and work worn at the Emmys, Grammys, Oscars, and Tony Awards — the results speak to what happens when craft meets purpose.

Life taught me to be your partner. Not just your tailor.

Our relationship is personal, not transactional. You are trusting me with the most important part of your brand — your appearance. The foundation. I don't take that honor lightly.
